San Francisco 49ers will lend “gravity and global awareness” to Rangers who help them attract more commercial offers that are more profitable and better signing, said the new deputy chairman of the Scottish club, Paraag Marathe.
The US consortium pioneered by private health care businessman Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers company, an investment arm from the NFL franchise which also has a Leeds United Premier League team, pays £ 75 million for the majority shares in Rangers this month.
“San Francisco 49ers is one of the biggest sports brands in the world, and of course one of the best known,” said Marathe, President 49ers Enterprises and Leeds chairman.
“Rangers are European soccer gems, and what can be brought by 49ers is a certain global gravity and awareness for Rangers.
“Now suddenly Rangers are in the same sentence. It is important when we come out with commercial partners who care about how many times they will be mentioned. It has monetary value.
“This has helped us with Leeds. Speaking selfishly, it actually helped 49ers too, bringing it more into global conversations. I have seen some initial returns. There are certain additional gravity that helped us in the recruitment of players.”
Rangers and Leeds will not fail UEFA rules
Rangers has been a scottish champion record 55 times but only once since 2011, the period in which they have struggled through administration but left behind by the rival of the old company Celtic.
49ers last month worth more than $ 8.5 billion (£ 6.2 billion), a number that was exceeded in sports only with last week’s agreement by Mark Walter to buy La Lakers for $ 10 billion.
Marathe also insisted that the steps had been taken to ensure Rangers and Leeds would not violate UEFA rules about multi-club ownership if they both met the requirements for European competition.
This week’s rule forced the owner of Crystal Palace John Textor to sell 43 percent of his shares at the Premier League club as his Eagle soccer group also has a French Lyon club.
“We have checked the box with the people we need to ensure that if and when there is a situation where there is even a conflict perception, we will resolve it,” he said. “It’s been solved, so we’re good there.”
