Sir Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron said they hope to make “good progress” on issues including migration and defense when they meet next week, said number 10.

The two leaders will hold a peak meeting when the French president travels to Britain for the country’s visit next week, with the two leaders talking on Saturday before Mr Macron’s trip.

Issuing a reading of the conversation between Prime Minister and Mr. Macron, a spokesman for Downing Street said Sir Keir “hoped to welcome the President in the UK next week, with the two leaders agreeing that the state visit would provide historical opportunities to show the vastness of British relations.

“Turning to the British-French Summit on Thursday, they hope to make good progress in various priorities with us including migration, growth, defense, and security.”

The two leaders will also host a coalition meeting while Mr Macron is in England, with the two leaders are expected to enter to speak with other allied countries who want to support future peace agreements in Ukraine.

There was a broad talks between the two countries about migration, and the peak came because Britain had repeatedly encouraged French authority to do more to prevent small ships from crossing the channel.

The number of people who had arrived in the UK on small boats passed 20,000 earlier this week.

Downing Street welcomed the actions of French officers on Friday, after the report suggested the knife had been used to stab boats in the waters off the coast of France.

A spokesman number 10 said: “We welcome the actions of French law enforcement to take action in shallow waters, and what you have seen in the last few weeks is the amplifier of their approach.”

The existing rules have been changed to allow police officers to intervene when dinghies are in the water.

These changes have not been valid, but reports on Friday suggested that harder actions have been taken.
