The environmental secretary promised to share the pollution of waste disposal in 2030

The environmental secretary has promised to cut waste pollution from the water company to half in 2030 compared to 2024 levels.

Steve Reed will announce the target when he spoke to the media on Sunday morning.

The government said it marked the first time that the Minister set a clear target to reduce the pollution of waste that would be held accountable.

It also aims to cut phosphorus from wastewater which is processed into two in 2028 – pollutants that cause blooming algae that are harmful to wildlife.

The promise came as part of the ongoing government’s efforts to respond to public anger that extended to the record of waste spills and increased bills, with a poor background of governance in the water company that was ridden by debt.

Reed said: “The family has witnessed the river, coastline, and local lake suffering from a record level of pollution.

“My promise for you: The government will divide two waste pollution from the water company at the end of this decade.”

Emerged as Minister of Brace for publication of an independent water commission to the water sector which was sick on Monday morning.

The commission was founded by the British and Welsh government as part of their responses to systemic failures in the industry, although ministers have ruled out the nationalization of the company.

The government will respond to recommendations in parliament on Monday.

On Friday, the Environment Agency revealed that a serious pollution incident caused by water companies throughout the British increased 60 percent last year compared to 2023.

The supervisor said the company recorded a total of 2,801 pollution incidents in 2024, up from 2,174 in 2023.

Of this amount, 75 is categorized as a “serious or persistent” danger to wild animals and human health – up from 47 years ago.

The Minister has vowed “Root and Branch Reform” to the industry and has introduced the package of steps for the past year to cut the pollution level.

They have forbade unfair bonuses for 10 bosses this year and threaten prison sentences for executives who violate the law.

The government also praised the £ 104 billion plan to be invested to increase the destroyed pipes and build new maintenance work and ringfencing consumer bills to increase transfer of companies that use money for payment of executive bonus shareholders.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency has received a record of £ 189 million to support hundreds of law enforcement offices for inspection and prosecution, with a fine from companies that pay for increasing funding.

The ministers hope that this will help achieve the newly announced targets in waste pollution, which can cause damage to the swimmer, the loss of life and ecosystem damage.

“One of the biggest infrastructure projects in British history will clean our rivers, lakes and sea forever,” Reed said.
