British people can lose better home insurance offers by failing to shop

British customers can lose cheaper home insurance offers because they fail to shop for a cheaper cover.

One in four homeowners renewed their home insurance without looking for better quotes, potentially causing them to lose quotes or extra cheaper, according to a survey of the financial service comparison platform.

Of the 2,000 British surveyed, almost 10 percent claimed to forget to shop until it was late and their automatic update had passed, when they turned to manage other insurance policies.

Nathan Blackler, a channel development manager for property at Go Compare, said, “Home insurance is only one of the many policies and contracts, on average, the owner of the juggle at a certain time.”

“So it’s easy to see why letting the policy automatically update for 12 months feels like the simplest choice”.

Most likely will update automatically?

Among the survey findings, it is shown that men are more likely to allow their automatic policy updates compared to women, with 28 percent doing so, compared to 21 percent of women.

It was also found that the 25-34-year-old homeowner was the most likely to renewed demographics, with 35 percent acknowledged that they were not looking for better offers.

Blackler praised the lack of urgency in hunting new policies with the assumption that insurance protection needs “will remain the same” for this year, especially if consumers have “made a little or no change” to their property.

But this does not always happen, with property values change regularly due to external factors such as slaughtering interest rates and supply and demand problems. Small improvements such as repairing leaky taps can also change home assessment.

Blackler said, “When the time comes to update, think about whatever work you have done to your home, the value of the property and the closing level you need for your content.”

Shop in advance

Although some homeowners lost savings, almost one third of shopping around for another cover before the update date.

The next quarter chooses to wait until their update is to see another cover, if the switching provider will save their money.

Some policies offer additions such as legal protection, emergency assistance at home, or unintentional damage protection without additional costs.

Blackler is finished, “It’s always good to compare the policy to see if you can get a better offer and check whether your needs have changed.”
