Defense training will be increased to the ‘speed of war’ in a new strategy

Defense training will be upgraded to the “speed of war period” in new education efforts aimed at growing British skilled workforce, the government said.

Under the plan, five “technical advantages” will only be established throughout the country and targeted short courses and stem schemes for school students to pursue careers in this sector.

The £ 182 million funding package will be the heart of the new defense industry strategy which will be launched on Monday.

This includes regional stem initiatives to “thousands” of school -age students for the next four years to pursue careers in this sector, as well as short courses targeted for people who have worked in a particular defense industry.

There will also be an investment in higher education to increase places in courses related to defense, internships and new clearing graduates, and five new technical advantages.

Applications for five universities will be aired by the end of this year and with successful tertiary institutions will be launched in 2026, according to the government.

The Ministry of Defense (MOD) said the strategy would offer opportunities for young people, helping veterans to work and “complement the British workers with the expertise” needed for “demands for the rapidly developing defense sector to innovate with the speed of war”.

This strategy will frame defense as a “engine room for national updates” and try to equip workers with the skills needed for the future, such as submarine engineers and cyber war specialists.

Defense Minister John Healey said the encouragement was “the biggest defense skills plan in decades” and will help improve national security and employment creation.

Educational Secretary Bridget Phillipson said it would “break the barrier for opportunities for people in every corner of our country”.

British defense expenditure will increase by £ 13.4 billion every year in 2027, pushing a total budget above £ 70 billion.
