Both Emanuel Colombini and you really have a Lamborghini Diablo poster on our bedroom walls. However, only one of us made the childhood dream come true: not only by having a diablo, but also by transporting this wild Italian slices suddenly out of retirement. Frankly, if I can still do Blu Tack Supercar to my wall, Eccentrica Diablo will go straight up.

A successful amateur racing businessman and driver with a desire for all Lamborghini things, Colombini established an Eccentrica car to build Diablo Pamungkas. The result is a carbon -bodied award with a V12 engine that is set, a six -speed manual gearbox and the interior ordered first. Only 19 examples will be made, so if you are able to pay the requested price of £ 1 million – Plus the cost of Diablo donors – this is an more rare alternative, arguably more exotic than the singer Porsche 911.

I spoke with Colombini about the design and engineering behind this project, how he drove, the state of the supercar market and where the Eccentrica would leave the next. Better the devil you know? Not in this case, it seems.

How does the Eccentrica start? And why choose Diablo as your first project?

I am the President of Colombini Group, one of the leading furniture companies in Europe, but I also have a deep desire for cars – especially Lamborghini. Diablo is my dream car as a child. I remember reading it on QuatttrorouteItalian Car Magazine. I fell in love from that time.

Many years later, I had the opportunity to buy Diablo Beginning, along with A [limited edition, track-focused] Diablo GT. The two cars are the reference point for the Eccentrica Recentrica project.

How important it is to bring [former Lamborghini CTO] Maurizio Reggiani came out of retirement?

I know Maurizio by becoming a Lamborghini customer, especially when I bought a new LPI 800-4 Countach and Essenza SCV12 for my collection. His experience includes decades in Lamborghini, including important roles in engineering Murcielago, Aventador and Termination.

Maurizio is an extraordinary asset for Eccentrica; His involvement validated project technical ambitions. Our goal is to build restomodes with very high standards, and their support helps us to realize that vision.

Tell me about the Eccentrica Diablo design.

We collaborate with Borromesilva Design Studio in Milan. The aim is to strengthen the aggressiveness of the car, but with a subtle improvement that may only be seen by the lovers of the true Lamborghini.

We have added carbon -carved carbon fiber panels, flare wheels and new Aero elements, all without betraying the original shape of the car or Gandini heritage.

What changes have you made on the V12 engine and manual gearbox?

We start with V12 5.7 liters that are sucked naturally, then increase it with new valves and camshaft, electric crazy wheels and electronic throttle bodies.

The maximum power increases to 550HP, combined with 443LB FT torque. The new engine management system means we can program three modes of drive: Acqua [Wet]Road [Street] and track [Track] – All were selected via dial on the middle console. This is a new approach for cars from the 1990s, which was impossible at the time.

Our six-speed manual transmission that was ordered first has a shorter ratio than the Lamborghini original five-speeder, with an open gate and an electric teeth. We want to improve performance, but also to make power delivery less brutal and more precise. This is now a car that you can drive safely in all conditions.

What about the interior? What inspired the digital dashboard?

Cabin is a combination of retro-futuristic elements: minimalist and more modern. Digital screens are intended to resemble the first electronic dashboard. This is nostalgia, but with a level of functionality far exceeds the original diablo.

Everything is made by hand, and designed for good clarity and ergonomics. Our Audio Marantz 14-speaker system is also exclusive for Eccentrica.

So, a big question: How is the Eccentrica Diablo Drive?

We work a lot on driving experience. It must remain analog, but with additional configuration. The chassis is reinforced by carbon fiber composites and we install a semi-active transparency that adjusts to match the driving mode. Brembo brakes are stronger, plus there is a new traction control system. Pirelli P Trofeo R tires are also far more installed in the original Diablo for the use of roads and tracks.

Power Steering and Nasal Lift Kit Increase the use of cars everyday too. Much more flexible to suit your mood and driving style.

You have competed in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo championship. Will Eccentrica go racing?

Yes, I competed in the Super Trofeo last year, and this year I had race Huracan GT3 at the GT Italian endurance championship. Eccentrica Diablo is of course a car that you can enjoy driving on the circuit, but it is not homologically for a particular racing series. Each car is a unique and very personal commission.

Can you tell us about future projects? Will the eccentrica focus widen to other brands?

For now, we want to focus on Lamborghini, but not only on Diablo – we will consider other models in the future. Eccentica is a small company, so we need to build our profile and become recognized in the automotive market. Lamborghini is a brand that I always like, and this is a big part of our brand identity.

Does the resurrection of fans show restomods loss of interest in modern supercars?

That’s a good question, and that is the core why I started this project. Modern supercar is very fast, but too digital for me. Electronics has made them feel less tactile and emotional. They have ironed all the defects that gave the character of the car. This can feel more like you play computer games.

The best restomod offers a different experience. They return the sense of connection with the car. For that reason, I think this market will continue to grow. Just look at the success of companies such as Singer Vehicle Design, Gunther Werks and RUF on Porsche Sphere.

Do you think the internal combustion engine has a future?

Almost all projects to build power supercars are completely stopped. There is a little request for them. In the future, I think – and I hope – the market will be divided into two different directions: electric power for most cars everyday, but internal combustion engines that live in sports cars. This may restomod or vehicles from marques established such as Lamborghini and Ferrari.

Let’s also remember the close relationship between sports cars and motorsports, which are large industries throughout the world. I don’t believe there are many requests for electric racing cars. And if traditional engines can continue to exist in Motorsport, they can have a future on the road.

Finally, what’s in your dream garage? You can choose five cars, without budget restrictions.

I already have Miura P400 S in my collection, but I want to add Miura SV – this is the main example of Lamborghini’s first supercar. Then I will add the Lamborghini Countach LP5000 Quatttttttttttttttttttrvole, the carburetor version, which was launched in 1985. And for driving a track, I will choose a Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT racing car. They sounded extraordinary.

Far from Lamborghini, my dream garage must provide space for Zonda Pagani. And I will complement my top five with the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Gullwing’. This is a true classic and automotive design work.

Watch and listen to Eccentrica Lamborghini Diablo who climbed to the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed starting July 10-13.
