Anyone who advertises the crossing of small ship channels or fake passports on social media can face a sentence of five years in prison under new plans.
The ministers try to create new violations under border security, asylum and Immigration Bill that have gone through parliament, to expand their scope to overcome illegal entry into England.
The violation will also prohibit illegal job promises that are promoted online and can bring large fines.
It appeared when the government wrestled with a record number of migrants arriving in the UK after crossing the British channel.
On Wednesday, the arrival passed more than 25,000 for this year, a record for this point this year.
Helping illegal immigration to Britain has become a crime, but officials believe that change will give more strength to the police and other institutions to disturb the criminal gang.
According to an analysis by the Home Office, around 80 percent of migrants arrive in the UK with small boats told officials that they used social media during their trip, including to contact agents related to people who smuggled gangs.
Domestic Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Selling false promises from safe trips to Britain and life in this country – both at or offline – only to make money, is not immoral.
“These criminals have no problems with prominent migrants in life -threatening situations using insolent tactics on social media. We are determined to do everything we can stop them, wherever they operate.”
The National Crime Agency has worked with social media companies to delete posts that promote crossings, with more than 8,000 taken offline in 2024.
Director General of Operations NCA Rob Jones said the proposed new violation would give them more choices about how to target their gangs and business models.
Previous cases that could be targeted under the proposed violation include a preston-based smuggler who was imprisoned for 17 years for posting a video of migrants to thank him for his help.
Albanian smuggling who uses social media to promote “£ 12,000 package offer for accommodation and work in the UK at the time of arrival will also be within the scope.
Conservatives say “Too little, late” and that only their proposal to automatically deport the people who enter England through an invalid route can handle a small ship crossing.
The Secretary of the House of Shadow Chris Philp said: “Setting on the edge will not fix the problem.
“Workers still do not have a clear plan to prevent illegal entering, there is no effective law enforcement and there is no strategy to accelerate the transfer. This is a panic effort to look tough after months of not doing anything.
“The only clear and upheld plan is a conservative deportation bill, a strategy without further ado that allows us to withstand illegal arrivals immediately and delete it without delay. The British public deserves focused action, no more than labor tithering.”
