Coppell hosts Plano East on Friday at 7 p.m. at Buddy Echols Field. The Cowboys are 6-0 this season, but more importantly, 3-0 in District 6-6A. This game is a big one for Coppell as it is their homecoming game and the team is preparing for an energetic audience.
Coppell coach Antonio Wiley looks to limit the passing of Plano East quarterback Drew Devillier.
“We want to eliminate space,” Wiley said. “Their quarterback is a big boy and he can really throw the ball, so it is our job as a coaching staff and team to find a way to eliminate some of their soft and easy throws.”
Wiley also expects the return of injured Coppell senior safety Jaden Adkins.
“We kind of got banged up early in the year but I think we have found a way to get back healthy,” Wiley said.
Coppell has four district games remaining, meaning the Cowboys need to maintain focus throughout the end of their season, especially on Friday’s homecoming game
“I am not a big fan of [the homecoming game],” Wiley said. “It always worries you as a coach when you have all the outside distractions going on, but no matter how you see it homecoming is a tradition. There is always a chance for your team to come out unfocused and worry about things other than the preparation for the game but if you do not take care of business Friday night, it puts a damper on your homecoming dance.”
