Energy Watchdog has announced that the energy price limit will be raised by two percent higher than expected between October and December.

Ofgem’s decision is regulated to encourage typical household energy expenditure to £ 1,755 per year, despite the decline in wholesale energy prices.

This came after a price decline during the summer, after the regulator cut the quarterly price limit of seven percent from May.

While the new limit means the return of energy bills is increasing, the figure is 0.9 percent lower than in the same period in 2024 – when adjusted to inflation.

And the number £ 625 is lower than the peak of the energy crisis in early 2023.

During the summer, the energy sector has been hit by a decline in wholesale prices, with Eon’s turnover down £ 800 million in July.

The cost of living extortion

Danni Hewson, Head of AJ Bell’s financial analysis, described the news as “a blow to many hard -working families”.

“While we were not near the highest experienced at the end of 2022 and early 2023, there were no signs of bills returning to the type of level we used before Russia invaded Ukraine, despite the new stabilization in the cost of wholesale energy.”

Hewson added: “Over the past few years people have used every trick in this book to ensure the use of their energy as efficiently as possible, so there is no doubt that there will be families who maintain everything that is crossed that this winter will be light.”

Claire Coutinho’s shadow energy secretary condemned the high price close at a post on X, saying: “Workers promise to cut a bills of £ 300 but it cannot be further than the truth.

“The cost of standing rose by 14%, and the cost of balance has increased, which means our energy bill is rising even when the wholesale price falls.

“This is not a global market, this is Ed Miliband’s political choice.”

Meanwhile, Deputy British Reformation Leader Richard Tice said: “Workers promise bills will go down – they lie”, adding: “More renewable = higher bill”.
