Starmer spoke with Trump after the ceasefire talks for the President of the Ukraine President with Putin

Sir Keir Starmer spoke with Donald Trump after the US President Summit with Vladimir Putin ended without an agreement to stop the war in Ukraine.

The Prime Minister joined the call with Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky from Ukraine, as well as other European leaders, after the talks of the US-Russian ceasefire, said Downing Street.

Trump did not secure an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine after almost three hours of discussion with his Russian partner at the Military Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

After negotiations, which took place with senior officials, the two presidents refused to answer questions from reporters.

However, both of them made a statement, with Trump saying “some great progress” made with “many points” agreed upon and “very little” left.

After the Summit, Trump suggested that there were only a few large stumbling blocks that held the prospect of a peaceful agreement.

Speaking to Fox News, he said now it’s up to Zelensky to “make an agreement” to end the war.

In the summons after the Summit, Sir Keir and Zelensky spoke with US presidents along with leaders from Italy, France, Finland, Germany and Poland, and Mark Rutte Nato, and Ursula von Der Leyen from the European Commission.

Sir Keir will talk again with European leaders this morning.

Zelensky said the call began as the only one between him and the US president, before the European NATO leaders joined them.

The leader of Ukraine also suggested that he travel to Washington DC at the beginning of next week to continue the conversation.

Writing on social media, the President of Ukraine said: “We support President Trump’s proposal for trilateral meetings between Ukraine, United States and Russia. Ukraine stressed that the main problems can be discussed at the leader level, and the trilateral format is suitable for this.

“On Monday, I will meet with President Trump in Washington DC, to discuss all the details about ending the murder and war. I am grateful for his invitation.”

European allies must be “involved in every stage to ensure a reliable security guarantee with America,” he added.

Writing on the social platform of truth, Trump then described his meeting with Russian leaders as “very successful”.

He claimed that during the call between the allies “is determined by all that the best way to end the terrible war between Russia and Ukraine is to go directly to the peace agreement, which will end the war, and not just a ceasefire agreement, which often does not survive”.

After Zelensky’s visit to the US on Monday, Trump said he hoped that the Ukraine leader could meet Putin, adding: “Potential, millions of people’s lives will be saved. Thank you for your attention to this problem!”
