Donald Trump has blinded British producers by displaying new tariffs of up to 25 percent in more than 400 categories of British goods, from shampoo and high seats of children to motorbikes and diggers.
The Secretary of the Conservative Shadow Trading Andrew Griffith accused the minister of failing to protect the exporter, saying: “When it came to protect the British business from US tariffs, Starmer was ‘all hats, no livestock’.”
“Agreement ‘The small tariff’ turned out to have more holes than one of Donald Trump’s golf course and the trade secretary did not even know what tariffs were in force where. Downing street needs to spend less time to negotiate Chagos and more sweating details in US trade.”
The move, according to British officials, surprised them, came only a few months after London and Washington praised the agreement “breakthrough” about steel and aluminum.
The agreement should cut the 25 percent tariff on British metal to zero -but the implementation has stopped in the midst of US concerns over the origin of several British exports.
Producers warn the impact ‘very damaging’
Industrial leaders have described the latest steps as “very damaging the British industry”.
JCB Executive Chief Graeme MacDonald, whose company exported £ 2 billion £ 2 billion and engine to the US, said that sudden changes had created chaos in the American port.
“This has blinded everyone … There is a large pile of imported goods in every port now in the US”, he warned, urged the ministers to reach an agreement quickly.
Triumph’s motorcycle maker, who sold more than 100,000 bicycles last year, also said the tariff was surprising.
Executive Chief Nick Bloor said the decision was “surprising, especially given the newly negotiated trade agreement”.
Peter Brennan from UK Steel added: “Orders are being canceled or postponed – sometimes the cost of a million pounds – because this trade negotiation is still ongoing.”
Trade talks and political pressure
The expanded tariff list, which includes varied goods such as eating utensils, washing machines and even condensed milk in aluminum packaging, follows the lobby of US steel companies that urge the White House to prioritize domestic production.
While Downing Street insists that Britain remains a country that is a country that avoids Trump metal tariffs 50 percent, the government acknowledged the latest announcement time is unexpected.
Officials say they will continue to work with Washington to “provide the security industry they need, protect vital work, and put more money in people’s pockets”.
Trump, meanwhile, on the social platform of its truth, has beautified the new Congress budget office estimates that the tariff will cut the American budget deficit of $ 4TRN over the next decade.
