Just in case if you don’t have enough Pedro Pascal after the last from us, Fantastic Four and Eddington to come, A-Listers who are in demand are a very glamorous corner of the love triangle in a romantic materialist drama.

Dakota Johnson played Lucy, a New York resident who made a living with a professional matchmaker, pairing “high -value” individuals based on their physical and financial attributes. His scientific approach to love is rooted in care that makes him afraid of poverty – something that ended the previous relationship. His ex, actor Broke John (Chris Evans), re -entered his life right when he started dating Harry (Pascal), whose wealth and attention were everything he wanted on paper. But an incident at work made him question all his views about love.

The synopsis might sound like an arrangement for the romantic comedy of the cut-and-paste-a cynical match that is trapped between two hunk-but with pleasure, director Celine Song aims for something more mature. Its amazing debut, past life 2023, explores the ideas of kismet and a mate of romantic souls. He returned to the same area here, asking whether true love is something that is intangible – and if so, how do we know when we find it?

There is a healthy level of cynicism in telling stories, but not in the place you expect. Instead of destroying the idea of true love to appear subversive, this film instead questioned those who believe that life partners can be found through the “must be owned” checklist. While Manhattanite who was sharp from Johnson initially presented a reasonable system, the idea of choosing a potential partner like someone would choose a new car gradually began to feel unreasonable. But nothing is ridiculed – every character has the opportunity to express their feelings, building a vision of romance that does not depend on tired figures of speech.

Johnson made Lucy’s weaknesses as interesting as his strength, playing someone whose past made him very safe than spark. He is the perfect clue to Song, the previous film prefers calm and intense emotions rather than theatricals – and he shares original chemistry with the two leading men. Star of the Moment Pascal issued a class as a investor whose purpose seemed to be in harmony with Lucy, while Evans had a messy charm as a bankrupt ex who loved him very much. It might be clear from the beginning with whom Lucy was, but the excitement lies in the emotional journey.

The materialist ended quite neatly, but it was mature to take a more vapor dating side to make the conclusion satisfying. Once again, Song explores the angle of calm and honest hearts to share messages that are not shallow at all.

Materialists are in theaters starting August 15
